We are committed to developing our own professional development around mental health and wellbeing; this ensures we are up to date with the latest approaches. We have three members of staff who are ELSA trained and six members of staff with the Mental Health First Aider qualification and eight Mental Health Champions. We join in with a range of wellbeing awareness days and plan activities for the whole school community. For example, this year we have celebrated ‘Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week’, ‘Mental Health Awareness Day,’ ‘Hello Yellow,’ ‘Odd Socks Day’ and ‘Wellness Week’.
We monitor the wellbeing of all our children. All classes have an emotion check in board where children can check in with their teacher about how they are feeling. This is then used to informally check in with the children throughout the day.
On a termly basis, the children are assessed in Pupil Progress Meetings against the Leuven Scale. Senior Leadership and teachers then track this to identify where
there may be concerns.
Some children may require additional support for their mental health and wellbeing. We are proud of our current school offer and have a wide range of experienced and trained members of staff who deliver a range of interventions. See the table below which lists our School Offer.
We are lucky enough to have our ‘Thrive Hive’ which means we now have a dedicated, therapeutic space for our mental health and wellbeing interventions where children will feel relaxed and comfortable. The environment has been specially designed to be welcoming and safe to support our children in developing their self-esteem and a greater understanding of their emotions.
