Homework in Year 1

Dear Parents,

During the last few weeks in Year 1, we have been looking at the story Monkey Puzzle. We have written monkey sentences, drawn monkey pictures and we’ve even been monkeys in the forest. Our homework this week is to create a monkey on Purple Mash.

To log onto Purple Mash, use your child’s login (this is at the back of their reading record). Once logged in you will see an alert in the top left corner. Then click ‘go to’ on your monkey activity.

Stained Glass Windows In Year 1

In RE we have been looking at beautiful stained glass window designs in different churches. This inspired us to make stained glass windows on the front covers of our RE books!

FYI – Book Bags and Reading Books

Good afternoon Year 1 Parents,

The larger story books in your child’s book bag are gifts from the school to keep at home. Your child will be issued with a phonics book to read at home which will be changed daily. Your child may have read some of these books before, however due to the amount of time away from school, we would like to recap the sounds again. We also aim to change Oxford Reading Tree books once a week.

Thank you 😁

Our Year 1 Prayer

The children in Year 1 have thought of lots of ideas for a class prayer this week. We spoke about what we would like to say to God as we come back to school again.  We have had lots of lovely suggestions across the year group and together we have formed a Year 1 Prayer.

PE in Year 1🎾🏈⚽

Good Morning Year 1 parents. We wanted to inform you that our set PE days are a Thursday and Friday. However, it would be better if children could keep their PE kits in school all week, they can then be taken home on a Friday to be washed if needed. Due to the new guidelines for the new year, children will not be allowed to borrow PE kit from school. We may do PE outside during the Autumn term so please make sure their kit contains warm clothes and suitable trainers.

Many thanks,

The Year 1 Team

RE Activity – Pentecost

Pentecost Sunday is celebrated 50 days after Easter. In 2020, it falls on May 31st.

This event is celebrated to commemorate the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Watch this video all about Pentecost and Why God sent us the Holy Spirit.

Your activity:

Have a go at writing your own Prayer to God, you might want to include the Holy Spirit, this was a gift given to us from God .

Here are some templates you could use for your prayer, they also have pictures from ‘The Story of Pentecost’.

Keeping Active with Dancing (and some singing too) 🎶💃🏽

It is important to keep active whilst at home, here are some super dance ideas you could do at home. 🕺🏽😁

Making Fairy Houses👸🏻🔮

Today made fairy houses out of recycled plant pots.

First we designed them with pencils, then we took our fairy houses outside and placed them in our garden area – we are hoping to find some fairies soon!

We also created some characters to go around our fairy houses. We had lots of fun.

Science Activity🧼🖐🏼

In Science, we are learning about Animals including humans. Last week we looked at the human body.

It is very important to keep our bodies clean and healthy. We must always remember to keep our hands clean – especially with the current virus! So we use hand wash.

Today, your activity is to design your own hand wash. You can make this look and smell however you like, but it must be able to clean our hands.

Draw your own or use this template.
