Monday fitness

Today we went on the running track, when we got there we realised the grass was being cut so we all sat on the bench and watched as the tractor went up and down the field. We had a brilliant time talking about the weather, season of spring and smelling the fresh cut grass before completing some laps with our friends.

Mother’s Day

Last week the children were very busy looking after their planted iris bulbs ready to take home for Mother’s Day, they made cards and flower bouquets to say thank you to their mums for everything they do for them. The children were very proud of their creations and couldn’t wait to take them home!

Bulb planting!

Last week, with a focus on the season of spring the children have been excited to plant their own bulb, they filled the plant pot with compost to make the bulb a comfy bed, made sure the roots pointed down towards the ground and the shoot upwards, then added more compost to cover it up. The children are now looking forward to watering their plants and watching them grow over the next week in nursery!

Mr Wolf’s Pancakes

Last week in nursery we learned about Shrove Tuesday, we had a very busy week of sharing stories, Mr Wolf role play, pancake races and flipping, matching pairs, pancake counting, Mr Wolf threading, funny face pancakes, pancake tasting and citrus fruit exploration. We all had a fabulous time!

People we love

Over the last week we have been talking about people we love, our focus book of the week ‘love grows everywhere’ has helped us extend our vocabulary while encouraging the children to think about different people and things in their lives that they value and love. We have been very busy making valentines cards, art hearts, playing number matching pairs, story matching pairs and singing songs about friendship.

Winter learning

Over the last week in nursery we have finished off our learning about the season of winter. We have shared stories, played Jack Frost matching pairs, created snowflakes, winter paintings, played in the igloo and caught many colour and number fish while ice fishing! We have had a very busy week!

We have also loved our song of the week The Snowman Freeze!

Learning the sound ‘g’

This week in nursery we are learning the sound g, to say the sound you give a big smile that shows your teeth; press the middle of your tongue to the top and back of your mouth; push your tongue down and forward to make the g sound g g g. Our items for what’s in the box this week are grapes, glue, glasses and goat. Please practise saying these words with your children at home and have a look for anything else that has the g sound at the beginning.

Sensory bottles

Last week in nursery the children had a wonderful time making some sensory bottles, they looked around nursery for things to add and were particularly enthusiastic about adding glitter and some fish from our bubble tube. When we had made the bottles the children decided we had done an experiment and have since used the bottles for discussing sparkle, colour, patterns and shapes!

This week we are learning the ‘d’ sound

This week in nursery we are learning the sound ‘d’, to say the sound you put your tongue to the top and front of your mouth and make a quick d sound d d d. Our items for What’s in the box this week are dog, door, dinosaur and duck,  please practise saying these words with your child and see what other items you can find around the house with the initial sound d.

Lunar New Year

The children have loved learning about how people celebrate the Lunar new year. They have learned about the great race, played animal matching pairs, shared many stories, played in the Chinese restaurant, looked at different textures, used tweezers and chopsticks, created collage lanterns and made shape rabbits, we have had a very busy week!
