Hatching

Last week, we took delivery of an incubator and some eggs. It was then a very busy and eggciting week as we had the opportunity to watch them hatch into baby chicks.

The church at Easter

On Friday, we all went to church for our Easter service. When we got back, we talked about all the things we had seen. We made stained glass windows and took them home along with our palm crosses.

Easter nests

Today, we made Easter nests. We talked about melting and mixing and then had to count eggs into each nest. We got to eat them at snack time -they were delicious.

We have had our skeleton jigsaw back out this week and one of the reception children had great fun joining the bones together

Outside

Today, to make the most of the nice weather, we had story time outside. We went and sat on the benches and Mrs Garraway read us the story of “A tiny seed” by Eric Carle.

Tree of hearts

With today being Valentine’s Day, we decided to focus on hearts. We talked about feelings and emotions. We read the book ‘In my heart’ by Jo Witek.
We then all drew and cut out heart shapes. We wrote how our hearts were feeling using our phonics, decorated them, threaded them and hung them on the tree. This will stay in reception as a reminder of the words we can use to talk about our feelings and emotions.

Maps

This week, as one of our Plan, Do, Review activities, we have been drawing maps. Anna-Marie drew a map of how she gets to school and told me all about her route that she walks every day with her mum and her baby sister.

6,7,8 counting is really great.

This week in mathematics, we have started to explore the numbers 6,7,8. We talked about how we write these numbers, what they look like and how we can make these numbers using different amounts.

Safer Internet Day 2022

On Tuesday it was safer internet day. Luckily for us, this was on the same day that we have our computing sessions so we started off our lesson by talking about both the joys and the dangers of using the internet. We shared the story ‘Chicken Clicking’ by Jeanne Willis and discussed how we can be safe online and who we can go to for help if we ever have a problem.
Here is a link to the story if you want to watch it at home.

Snow!

The snow came this week. Only in the form of fake snow though. We mixed shaving foam and baking powder to create fake snow. We used it to write our names, play with animals from cold countries and have fun getting messy!
