Sports day 2023

All the children really enjoyed taking part in our sports day this year! We were so impressed with their skills and everyone showed off what they could do. No matter where they came in the races, all the children were proud of each other and showed off their St George’s school values! Thank you parents/carers for all your support with PE kit changes and for ensuring the smooth running on the day.

Egg-citing news!

Today we had some exciting visitors to reception- 10 eggs ready to hatch! They had not been with us for more than 30 minutes before our first two chicks hatched. We decided to call them King Charles the third and Queen Camilla.

But that wasn’t all! By the end of the day we had 8 chicks hatch! Over the next two weeks we will learn how to care and look after them and all about their life cycle. We look forward to giving you more updates and hope the children come home and tell you all about what they are learning!

Tricky words

We are challenging the children to learn to recognise tricky words quickly. Over the year, we have introduced the children to lots of tricky words. It is important that children are regularly practising sight recognition of these words to enable them to develop into more fluent and confident readers. Below are links to two tricky words songs to help you practise with your child!

Any work that you do at home with your children we would love to hear about! Please head over to tapestry and upload pictures and videos to show us what they are getting up to outside of school!

Phonics revision

Over this week , we have been reminding ourselves about some of the phase three sounds we have learnt. Due to a couple of weeks with bank holidays, we will be continuing revision of these sounds next week.

Phonics revision

We have been revising some of the phonic sounds that we have already learnt this year. This week it is ai, ee, igh, oa.

Here are some of the Little Wandle lessons that you can practise with your child at home to help them:

ee- https://youtu.be/cEffZUP4d_8

igh- https://youtu.be/cEffZUP4d_8

It would be great if you could take pictures/videos of the children practising their phonics at home and add it to their tapestry account.

Tricky words

These are the tricky words that we have been learning over the past year:

is, I, the

put, pull, full, as, and, has, his, her, go, no, to, into, she, push, he, of, we, me, be.

was, you, they, my, by, all, are, sure, pure.

See if you cant spot these in your child’s reading book and recall what the tricky word is!

Happy Mother’s Day!

This week we held our Mother’s Day tea party. It was lovely to see the children enjoying spending time with their mums in school, sharing a drink and a biscuit. The children performed a poem they had been learning for their mums too. We hope you all have a fantastic Mother’s Day!

Shropshire Cat Rescue

As part of our ‘Let’s Connect!’ Children’s mental health week, our year five children wrote thank you cards to Shropshire Cat Rescue. This week, they received a letter back from the charity thanking them for their support and a book!

Pairs

Today we have been looking at making pairs! We learnt that a pair meant a set of two. We matched up socks into pairs and thought about how many pairs we may have. We looked at odd numbers and how you cannot make pairs without having one odd sock. Feel free to put their pairing skills to the test when emptying the washing to match up those socks!
