British Inventors

This week, as part of our Design and Technology work, we are exploring British inventors.

Today, we have learnt about the invention of the telephone and have discussed what life would be like without certain inventions. Could you imagine living without electricity? A flushing toilet? The internet? Year 3 have engaged in some outstanding discussions, suggestion how life would be without different inventions.

We even had an opportunity to see an original telephone!

It took us a few attempts to figure out how to dial a number but we got there in the end!

Round up of the week

This week, the other half of Year 3 have had the opportunity to share their music knowledge! A big well done to all of the Year 3 children who have demonstrated excellent perseverance and recorded skills; a tricky skill to master!

In Geography, we celebrated World Wildlife Day. This year, the theme was ‘Ecosystem Restoration’. The children discussed at length the importance of our Ecosystems and their role in providing a suitable habitat for plant life and animals. We created posters celebrating and promoting World Wildlife Day with a specific focus on restoring some of our lost areas.

In PE, we have started our hockey unit. The children have been developing their control skills as well as stopping and starting on command. A great effort (in windy conditions) from all of the Year 3 children.

Have a brilliant weekend,

The Year 3 Team.

Year 3 work

Good morning, we hope the children who are at home are not feeling too unwell, here is some work for you to complete if you are feeling up to it.

Literacy

In literacy we have been learning about David Walliams. Today we are creating a book review about some of his books. You could create a book review about a book that you have read recently. This is a great way of summarising your opinion of a story and reflecting on the content of the text. Book Review Template

Numeracy

Continue to work on your division methods. Follow the link here https://vimeo.com/489844871 and supporting activity here Y3-Spring-Block-1-D5-Divide-2-digits-by-1-digit-1-2019

Don’t forget to practise your times tables on TTR’s too!

This afternoon we will be continuing with our History topic.

We are learning about Tudor entertainment and sport. Look at the supporting Tudor Sport PowerPoint and create a fact file about some of the things the Terrible Tudors got up to for sport! If you want to take your learning further, think about how sport and entertainment is different now compared to Tudor times.

Year 3 – Hello December!

In Year 3 this week, the children have well and truly settled in to the festive spirit! Wednesday marked the beginning of December and the children learned all about advent and how it is celebrated around the world. The teachers have even gone the extra step and organised a whole class advent calendar. There may even be a elf to search for every morning when the children arrive into the Year 3/4 Corridor…

In PE Year 3 have been exploring invasion games. We have been focussing on netball and how we can make a pass easier for our team mate by moving around off the ball. A big well done to team 2 in Miss Bradley’s class who showed excellent perseverance and teamwork!

Terrible Tudors! Henry VIII has really got us thinking this week as we researched all about his six wives. Can you name them and remember the order? We’ll give you a clue…

Divorced, beheaded…. (finish the sequence!).

A huge well done to all of the children this week, we’ve been completing some tricky work and you’ve all stuck at it!

Geography (COP26)

As the COP26 event is now drawing to a close, the United Nations are today making important decisions about the future of our planet. The event, which began on 31st October, has received wide coverage and is something we have discussed in school. Here are some key facts that have come of the event in Glasgow, Scotland:

COP26

It has been all go with Geography in school, with each year creating a pledge. We have compiled our pledges and have create a ‘Promise Tree’ that is displayed in our school hall.

If you could create a pledge related to climate change, what would it be?

Year 3 spelling

This term we are focussing on a range of different spelling rules. Each week your child will be given weekly spellings to practice at home.

We have also added a list of common exception words (below) if you wish to do additional practice with your child(ren).

We also have a subscription to the ‘spelling shed’ which has a whole host of activities for children to complete:

World Science Day 2021

It has been all go this afternoon in Year 3! We have been celebrating world science day and to mark the occasion, what better way that to create our own volcanic explosion?! With some simple household items (citric fruit, bicarbonate of soda, food colouring and washing up liquid) you would be surprised at the results!

The children worked in pairs to create their volcanic eruption; listening carefully to the instructions and making inference and prediction about what may happen. The children engaged in some excellent discussions and took great interest when the volcanos began to effervesce!

A sterling effort from the all of the Year 3 team today – well done!
