Year 1 – Locational and Directional Language 🧭

As geographers, our Year 1 children have been using directional and positional language to direct a teddy bear on a map. Using the words North, East, South and West, the children helped direct their partner from one location to another on a map.

Year 1 – Letters to Nepal 💌

As writers, our Year 1 children have been busy writing letters for Mrs Sixsmith to take with her to Nepal to deliver to the children who live there.

Year 1 – Comparing Weights ⚖

As mathematicians, our Year 1 children have been comparing the weights of objects during our measures topic. They loved using the balancing scales to accurately see if one object was heavier or lighter than another.

Year 1 – Length

As mathematicians, we have been learning about length this week. We went on a hunt around the classroom to find things that were shorter and longer than the giant’s footprint.

Year 1 – Estimating On A Number Line

As mathematicians, we have focused on place value this week. We worked in pairs to draw and number line and we had to estimate where to put the numbers that we were given onto it.

Year 1 – Clay Tiles 🏠

As artists, our Year 1 children have been working hard to make a clay tile in the style of a house. The children used the end of a paintbrush to add texture to their work.

Year 1 – Fractions of Quantities

As mathematicians, this week we have been finding fractions of quantities. We worked in pairs to find the fraction of each quantity to help us navigate a way through the maze from the start to the finish.
