Sheep Week!

Last we in nursery we sang lots of sheep nursery rhymes, we enjoyed singing Baa baa black sheep then changing the colour of the sheep for new verses. Throughout the week we learned all about sheep, where wool comes from, how it is made and what wool can be used for.

We are all very proud of our sheep display and loved talking about how soft the wool is!

We are Farmers!

Over the last couple of weeks in nursery we have been growing some cress (our crops), we discussed everything plants need to grow, we made sure our cress had enough light and water, and even sang to it when we thought it needed a little encouragement to grow!

When our cress had grown it was time to harvest it to make our three cheese and cress muffins! After washing our hands, we discussed the recipe, method and ingredients, and made our savoury muffins. After they had been cooked in the oven we took them home to share with our families so they could see what super farmers and chefs we are!

Here is the recipe if you would like to have a go at making them at home, you could get your child to show you what to do and help you Three cheese and cress muffins recipe – BBC Food

Farms and Food!

Premium Vector | Collection of farm animals cartoon

Over the last couple of weeks in nursery we have been learning about Farms and Food. We have been busy learning about all of the different animals and reading stories with a farm focus, we have particularly liked ‘What the ladybird heard’ and painted our favourite part of the story.

We have also looked at and discussed farms growing crops that become our food, we have planted some cress that we will harvest like farmers and hopefully use in our cooking next week!

Design your own dragon!

Not Your Typical Dragon | The Possum's Bookshelf

Watch and listen to the brilliant story written by Dan Bar-el called ‘Not Your Typical Dragon’

‘Not Your Typical Dragon’ by Dan Bar-el – READ ALOUD FOR KIDS! – YouTube

In this story you begin to realise that dragons can come in all shapes, sizes and colours, also, they don’t always have to breathe fire! Can you design your own dragon? Have a go at drawing and colouring your dragon to include the features you have thought of. Ask an adult to help with writing when naming your dragon and choosing its special power. Here is the dragon sheet that we have used in nursery Design your own Dragon sheet

We have also loved listening to FUNNY KIDS SONG: Dragon in my Wagon! 🙂 – YouTube we have tried to learn some of the words although we are sure it gets faster towards the end, the children really like that dragon rhymes with wagon!

Other activities you may like to try at home……

What makes us Happy?

Last week in nursery we had fun being active, We went to the adventure playground to practise balancing and climbing, and we thought about the songs that we really love dancing to, here are a couple of nursery favourites and a new friendship song you may like to try at home.

There was a Crocodile Song – Action Songs for Kids – Brain Breaks – Camp Songs – Kids Animal Songs – YouTube

Sticky Kids – Funky Monkey – YouTube

The More We Get Together – Kids Songs – Children’s Songs – Nursery Rhyme – by The Learning Station – YouTube

We also decided that being kind makes us happy, we decided we wanted to let the children at home know that we miss them. For our ‘giving’ day we made ‘We miss you’ cards, then posted them so they would get some exciting mail with their name on! If you would like to make a card for someone you miss, here is the card template Miss you card

Throughout the week and after much discussion we identified three things that make us happy to put on our ‘What makes me happy sheet’. The children in nursery drew a picture of themselves and three things that make them happy, we had drawings of family, swimming, monkeys, gaming technology, walks and bowling! We would love to see what makes you happy, here is the sheet we used What makes me happy

Please email the nursery team so we can celebrate your work together. nurseryteam@stgeorgesschool.org.uk
