American diner dinner day

All of the children who had dinners today absolutely loved the theming of the American diner! The food was also delicious. Thank you to all the ladies in the kitchen for the delicious food and fantastic decorations!

Tree cutting

Yesterday we had such an exciting morning watching the tree next to the car park be cut down. We were particularly excited when a big branch fell and also when the branches went into the chipper. It made an excellent sound!

Worries

As part of our Mental Health week, Reception had an assembly where we talked about our worries. The children were very sensible and very brave and shared concerns such as

“starting a new dance class”

“moving up a group at beavers”

“going to the cinema”

“at night when it’s dark”

We talked about ways we can reduce our worries such as:-

Doing something to take your mind off it-walking, colouring in, playing a game

Hand breathing

Talking about it.

We also shared the book Ruby has a worry by Tom Percival.

We have recently purchased a subscription to a website called ‘Mathsframe’ where our children can log-in to access a wide range of games to play at home.

Your children will be bringing home the username and password soon that they will require to access all of the games that are available.

Chicks

Our chicks are growing! They’ve started to grow different feathers and are lots bigger! We had a lovely time today watching them in the tuff spot whilst Mrs McEvoy gave them nice fresh bedding, food and water. Some of the chicks hopped into our hands and let us stroke them.

Walk to School Week | Living Streets

This week at St George’s we will be promoting Walk to School Week.

This is a five-day walking challenge that begins on Monday 15th of May. It encourages children to travel actively to school every day of the week. This could be walking, cycling or scooting to school. If it is not possible to walk the distance, you could ‘park and stride,’ which means parking further than you normally would and walking the rest of the way. 

During the week, the children will meet various animals and they’ll learn about the important reasons to walk and the difference it can make for individuals, communities and the planet! Each animal will educate the children on one of the following reasons: Inclusion, Sustainability, Health, Mindfulness and Friendship.

Egg-citing news!

Today we had some exciting visitors to reception- 10 eggs ready to hatch! They had not been with us for more than 30 minutes before our first two chicks hatched. We decided to call them King Charles the third and Queen Camilla.

But that wasn’t all! By the end of the day we had 8 chicks hatch! Over the next two weeks we will learn how to care and look after them and all about their life cycle. We look forward to giving you more updates and hope the children come home and tell you all about what they are learning!

Tricky words

We are challenging the children to learn to recognise tricky words quickly. Over the year, we have introduced the children to lots of tricky words. It is important that children are regularly practising sight recognition of these words to enable them to develop into more fluent and confident readers.
