Word, music and question of the week

Word of the week: environment.
We teach this word in geography and science. It means the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates.
Music of the week: Nessun Dorma. Composed by Puccini and performed by Luciano Pavarotti.
Question of the week: What could you teach your teachers?

Today we were thrilled to welcome Telford’s elected Member of Parliament Lucy Allan to speak with our Key Stage 2 children. She talked about the role of an MP, explained what happens in Parliament, what constituencies were, and how MPs are there to provide a voice to each area, as well as how important it is for us all to use our vote when we have one at 18.

Her visit tied in with the work that we’ve been doing around the British Values of democracy, the rule of law, respect and tolerance, and individual liberty. She took questions from the floor and our children asked some fascinating ones, including what she loved most about her job, and what she likes least! When she first decided she wanted to be an MP, whether she knew Rishi Sunak, whether she’d ever been on TV, and whether she’d met any famous people.

Thanks to Lucy for making the time to visit us, and well done to all of the children for being so beautifully behaved and for demonstrating our own school values so well.

Thank You!

HUGE thanks to everyone for supporting our charity cake sale today. With your help, we raised a whopping £369.36 which will be split between Classrooms in the Clouds (Nepal) and Prevent All. We had so many cake donations from you as well as your children buying cakes. This money will make a massive difference to these two small charities. Thank you once again!

Our World Debates

The week before Easter, we organised and led another debate event where local schools could join us to discuss topics around the theme ‘Our World’. We were very proud of our debate team, as well as our Y5 and Y4 children who joined the debates as the audience. Over 200 children took part in the debates during the day. Please watch this short video, filmed by the council, to find out more about the day.

Word, music and question of the week

Word of the week: courage.
Courage involves making good choices in the face of fear or obstacles. It’s another term for bravery. Remember: Bravery doesn’t mean fearlessness. It means we do not let fear hold us back from exploring new opportunities, developing our skills, and doing what is right.
Music of the week: Should I Stay, or Should I Go by The Clash
Question of the week: What five things would you take on a trip to the moon and why?

Happy Eid!

Happy Eid to our Muslim families within our school and local community!
Eid al-Fitr is the earlier of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam. The religious holiday is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long, dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
