KS1 Spelling Bee! 🐝

St. George’s had its very first Spelling Bee today, and it was a big success!

All of the children have worked so hard over recent weeks learning a range of age appropriate words.

The children in KS1 had so much fun and kept everyone on the edge of their seats! A HUGE well done to those who took part—they did a fantastic job standing up in front of their friends, and we couldn’t be prouder! Everyone in the audience had a great time cheering them on!

A special congratulations to our top 3 finalists who demonstrated exceptional spelling skills, they each received a prize for their fantastic efforts!

School Council Event

On Thursday, a small group of our school councillors went to Southwater Library to feature in Councillor, Shaun Davies’ Christmas video. The children got to ask Shaun a series of festive ‘This or That’ questions and talked about some of their own Christmas traditions. While they were there, they enjoyed reading some books too!

The video will be aired mid-December and used widely across the council’s digital channels to wish borough residents a Merry Christmas!

We are very excited to announce our first ever Spelling Bee at St George’s!

On Wednesday 22nd November, we will be holding a Spelling Bee for children in KS1 (years 1 and 2), lower key stage 2 (years 3 and 4) and upper key stage 2 (years 5 and 6).

The event was introduced to the children on Monday and it is completely optional, but it would be fantastic to have lots of children take part! All of the children taking part will receive a certificate and the top 3 winners will receive a prize! Anyone that does not want to participate will still get to enjoy the event by being part of the audience!

If your child has expressed an interest in taking part, a copy of their words will be sent home so that they can practise. The words are also attached below. Please note that children will need to spell the words using letter names not sounds.

Good luck!
