Christmas Around the World! 🌏🎄🌟

Here are a few pictures from the Year 5 and 6 ‘Christmas Around the World’ performance in Church yesterday. We were incredibly proud of all of them; their singing was phenomenal and their attitude, enthusiasm and festive spirit were amazing! 🎅🎄🌟

Free App to help children start talking about how they feel 😊😥

Ollee is a digital friend, funded by Parent Zone and BBC Children in Need’s A Million and Me initiative. It is a fantastic tool for helping children talk about their mental health and wellbeing, as well as helping them start conversations about how they are feeling with a parent or trusted adult. This is suitable for children ages 8-11.

National nursery rhyme week.

This week, as part of national nursery rhyme week, we have been singing a variety of songs.

Can you and your child sing any of the songs in the link below?

Soothing Worries Through Art

Does your child watch CBBC art Ninja?

The presenter, Ricky, has teamed up with ‘Place2Be’ to create a special episode all about children’s mental health. He is committed to helping children express themselves through arts and creativity.

Here is an outline of the activities he will show them how to do:

Activity 1: Settle your thoughts

We’ve designed the first activity to help children distract themselves from worrying thoughts or feelings. It involves a simple drawing task meant to help them feel more settled by becoming focused on and absorbed in what they are doing in the present moment.

Activity 2: Soothe your senses

The second creative activity is about helping children feel more grounded physically by soothing their senses. Children will create a ‘Garden of Calm’ using art materials and found objects, exploring their senses along the way.

Activity 3: Share your worries

Best done with children feeling settled, the last wellbeing activity explores how to share worries with a trusted adult. The tradition of Guatemalan Worry Dolls inspired this activity, where children use scrap and art materials to create their own worry dolls.

Homework in Reception

In reception, we encourage our parents/carers to support their child’s learning at development at home through the use of fun and engaging actitivties. We will sometimes set homework tasks using Tapestry so that you can upload photos/ videos of your child completing them.

Though we send no formal homework home, we will send home sheets that include the sounds we have learnt during the week with practise activities on them.

As a school, we expect all our children to be reading at home. We send home the children’s phonics book on a Wednesday/ Thursday for you to practise at home for the week to embed their phonic knowledge and practise their decoding and comprehension skills. Please ensure that you write in your child’s diary each time that you hear them read.
