Week 5 Home Learning (1st February) 📚😊

Hello Year 6! 😊

Well done for a fantastic effort with your home learning this week! 👍 We can tell that you are all working really hard and we are very proud of you 😊. You are doing an amazing job – keep up the great work everybody! 👍😊

This week (beginning 1st February) is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week 🥰 so our timetable is a little different this week. In the afternoons, one area of well-being is covered each day, and there are a choice of activities relating to these themes for children to choose from.

English lessons this week are all based around reading a book of your own choice and then completing follow-on activities. In maths, the lessons focus on area and perimeter. As with last week, some of the maths activities are labelled 1 star or 2 star. The 1 star activity is more straightforward than the 2 star; choose which activity you would like to do depending on how confident you feel. If you are super-confident, why not try the challenge activities?! ⭐

The resources for each week are posted on both the News and the Homework part of the Year 6 website page. If you are unable to view the resources on the Year 6 ‘News’ section, it may be easier to navigate to the ‘Homework’ section instead, which is displayed at the top of the page.

Below you will find the timetable for Week 5 – remember that this is just a guide and you can be flexible with how you structure your learning! The links for BBC resources can be accessed directly from the timetable.

Hello Year 6 👋

Another week of fabulous work! 😁

After catching up with you this week, we know that you have really enjoyed learning about pandas as well as the effects of exercise. We have particularly enjoyed looking at some of your super artwork linked to Martin Luther King this week too. 🤩🤩🤩

Here are a few examples that have been sent to us by email:

Alfie’s artwork                                             Oliver’s artwork

Olly’s Geography

Williams’s Artwork                                    Sheby’s Maths

Szabina’s French Menu

Thank you and well done again to everyone that sent us their work. 🥰👏👏👏

We would love to see the work you are most proud of from the week or a different activity that you have enjoyed? Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be everything! 😉

If you haven’t sent us any of your work yet, then don’t worry as there will be plenty of opportunities. 😀

Please send work and photographs to year6team@stgeorgesschool.org.uk 📧

If you would NOT like us to share your work on the website, then just make a note of it when you send the email.

Here is your work for today.

Practise your letters and sounds.

Numeracy 😁

Lesson: Identify properties of 3D shapes

3D shapes can be described in 3 ways:

  • Faces – the sides of the shape
  • Vertices – the corners
  • Edges – where the faces meet

See if you can work out how many faces, edges and vertices there are in the everyday 3D shapes that you found in your house yesterday. Record your findings on this worksheet.

Lesson: Creating texture.

Look at the presentation to help you to see what texture is.

In the frame create your own picture using different textures. Think about using different colours, different pens e.g. felt tips, pencils, crayons or gel pens.

We hope you have a great day!

Wednesday 🌈

Good morning! We are half way through the week. We hope that you are working hard and enjoying the work that you are doing.

Literacy 🐷

Practise your letters and sounds.

Letters and Sounds. Longer words.

Lesson: Use a given work in a sentence.

Today you are going to have a go at putting a word into a sentence. The words are from the story The Three Little Pigs. Remember that you need a capital letter to start the sentence and a full stop to end it. Don’t forget a good gap between each word! Here is a song to remind you!

Capital letter and full stop song.

There are two different worksheets. One is to fill in the missing words when you have found them. The other is writing your own sentences. You choose!

Lesson: Sort everyday 3D shapes

Today you are going to have a look around your house for everyday 3D shapes. Have you got any tin cans in the shape of a cylinder? Any balls in the shape of a sphere? See how many you can find! Take photos and send them to the year 1 email address!

Now try sorting the shapes into cubes, cylinders, cuboids, cones, pyramids and spheres. You will need scissors and a glue. Can you sort everyday 3D shapes into the correct groups?

Lesson: A winter to spring walk.

Go for a walk or just go into the garden. Have a look around. What is happening to the trees? Are the leaves starting to grow? Is the grass getting longer? Can you see anything starting to grow out of the ground?

On the sheet note down what you see.
