Well- being Activity ❤

This week we have been learning about the importance of sleep.

For the rest of the week, I would like you to keep a sleep dairy to track your sleeping patterns.

For each day record the following:

  • What time you went to bed,
  • What time you woke up
  • The total amount of hours you slept that night.

Remember, a child needs at least 10-11 hours of sleep a day. Are you getting the right amount of sleep each day?

Science Task- A Healthy Diet

In Literacy, we have been looking at ‘The Highway Rat’. We know that the Highway Rat loves buns and biscuits but this is unhealthy! Can you pack a healthy lunch for him?

Start by watching this video which talks to you about the five different food groups.

Then use this fun activity PowerPoint to sort foods into healthy and unhealthy categories.

Main Activity

Draw and label a healthy lunch for the Highway Rat on the sheet provided.

Literacy Task

Good morning year 1,

Let’s start the lesson by having a go at today’s SPaG mat.

Main Task

Police Officer Man clipart. Free download transparent .PNG | Creazilla

This week we have been looking at the story ‘The Highway Rat’ by Julia Donaldson. Yesterday you were asked to take on the role of a police officer and ask the characters from the story questions to find out what had happened.

But a police officer’s job does not stop there!

Today I would like you to write a police report which explains all of the crimes that the Highway Rat has committed.

You can write your own sentences to explain what the Highway Rat has done on the template below. Talk about and plan your writing with a grown up and read your sentences aloud as you go.

National School Sports Week 2020

It is currently National School Sports Week. If you have Facebook, you may have noticed that we have been setting you daily challenges to have a go at. We would like you to be filmed performing your best challenge and we would love your video to be posted onto our school’s Facebook page. If you don’t have a Facebook account, the challenges are below and you could send us your video clip via email. Have a go!

Well-being Activity ❤

Yesterday we started to look at the importance of sleep. Watch this clip which helps children to understand how lack of sleep can affect how well their brain works.

Rodd’s Bad Day- Sleep is Important!

BBC Two - Talkie Time, Series 1, Episode 2, Rodd's Bad Day - Sleep ...

In the video, Rodd plays a memory game but doesn’t remember much because he hasn’t had much sleep. He then goes off for a good night’s sleep and the next day, he is able to remember things much more clearly.

There is an opportunity for your child to play a memory game with Rodd at the end of the video.

How will they get on? 🤔

Science Activity

Sound: Facts (Science Trek: Idaho Public Television)

Yesterday we started to explore echoes by speaking to a cup in different ways. Today, your child can experiment with different objects around the home such as cardboard or plastic tubes etc.

Encourage them to move into different rooms of different sizes. Do they notice a difference in making echoes in the bathroom? Discuss why this might be. Most bathrooms have many hard surfaces (and less soft furnishings to absorb sounds).

Use the Resource Sheet 2 to draw a tick or a cross next to the objects if they made an echoey sound. Alternatively, your child could draw their own pictures and note what happened.

Maths Task

Starter Activity

Listen to today’s song here: Waves Your Arms In The Air With Percy

Today’s game focuses on solving multiplication using the 2x table: ICT Games- Funky Mummy

Remember to hold up the correct amount of fingers and then count in twos.

Main Activity

Today we will continue with our work on position and direction.

Start by playing the ‘Teddy Prepositions PowerPoint’. Then find a box and a toy.  Ask your child to place the toy in different position to check that they understand positional language.  For example, put the toy..

  • “on top of the box”
  • “underneath the box”
  • “to the left of the box”
  • “to the right of the box”
  • “behind the box”
  • “in front of the box”

To switch this up, you can put the toy in different places and see if your child can describe the position.

Extension activity

To challenge your child even further they can have a go at this  worksheet.

Literacy Task

Good morning year 1,

Here is today’s SPaG mat. Can you complete it all?

SPaG Mat 2

Main Activity

Policeman Stop Clipart

Re- read ‘The Highway Rat’ and pick a character from whom the Highway Rat steals food. How do you think that character is feeling and what might they be thinking?

Imagine that somebody has called the police and they have decided to interview all of the characters in the story to find out what has happened. What sorts of questions do you think they would ask?

Write some questions in the role of a police officer for your chosen character. Remember to use a question mark at the end of each question.

You might ask questions like…

  • Who did you see?
  • What did he look like?
  • What did he take?

Once you have written the questions, you could role play the conversation with another member of your family and come up with some responses for your character.
