Maths Task

Memorising times tables makes it far quicker and easier for children to work out maths problems in their heads. By the end year 1, children should be well on their way to learning the 2, 5, and 10 times tables.

Watch this video and create your own Multiplication Table Wheel which will help children to learn the multiplication facts in a fun and interactive way.

Literacy Task

Axel Scheffler's official website | Superworm

Good morning year 1,

This week’s literacy activities will be based on the story ‘Superworm’ by Julia Donaldson. Some of you might remember me reading this book in an assembly earlier on this year!

I have attached a power point version of the story here so you can have a go at reading it with an adult.

Discuss how Superworm helped the different garden creatures. Draw a picture of each creature with their problem. Write a description of the problem and how Superworm fixes it.

E.g. Superworm turns into a skipping rope to cheer up the bees.

Don’t forget to share all of the work you have done with your teachers by sending in a copy to year1team@stgeorgesschool.org.uk

Well-being Activity ❤

Ever wonder what’s going on inside your child’s head?

Watch the movie Inside Out to look at how emotions work together and use the Inside Out feelings journal to help your child express their feelings.

Print out several copies of the inside out journal and leave them in a place that is accessible for your child. This way they can write an entry whenever they want!

Weekend Project 🛠✂

Pippety currently lives in a corner cupboard which is cluttered and crowded. He would prefer to live in the garden where there is lots of space and plenty of sunshine. ☀

Can you create him a new house using any materials that you can find at home? I have attached a few ideas to get you started. 🤔

Print or write out the questions and hide them around the house.

The questions focus on:

  • place value
  • odd and even numbers
  • 1 more and 1 less
  • number bonds to 10
  • addition
  • subtraction
  • counting in twos and fives.

NOTE: Although I have included 14 questions, only use the amount suitable for your child.

The children have a set amount of time to find the question cards and record their answers on this sheet.

Literacy Task

Good morning Year 1,

I hope you have enjoyed learning with Pippety Skycap this week. As your final task, I would like you to create another paragraph to add to the story.

You can re read the story here to recap what has already happened.

You will need to think about:

  • Where Pippety goes next and who he meets.
  • The item he uses from his pocket.
  • How he tricks the new character.

Draw a picture of your idea and write a couple of sentences explaining what happens.

Use these sentences openers to get you started…

  1. Next he came to ….
  2. Pippety pulled out a ………

Don’t forget to include these things in your writing:   Bill Quay Marking & Feedback Policy

Please send your work into year1team@stgeorgesschool.org.uk. We would love to read your additions to the story!

Well-being Activity ❤

Have fun completing this  rainbow tracker by colouring a section of the rainbow each day to show how you are feeling. I have also included a blank version too so you can choose your own colours and emotions.

I wonder what it will look like when finished. Which mood will be the most popular mood for you? 🤔

Science Activity 🧪👨‍🔬

I hope you had fun making cornflour slime yesterday. 😊

Today, I have another experiment for you to try. Have a go at growing your own rainbow following the instructions on this website.

Grow Rainbow Experiment

Once you have carried out the investigation draw a picture and write a sentence explaining happened and send it in to year1team@stgeorgesschool.org.uk.

Maths Activity

Today’s activities will be focused on odd and even numbers.

Watch this video on BBC Bitesize and have a go at the activities at the bottom of the page.

Here are a few more activities for you to have a go at:

1. Try this cut and stick activity

Odd and Even Numbers - Cut and Paste Bucket Worksheet - K-3 ...

Challenge questions:

  • Can you write an even number between 5 and 10?
  • Can you write an even number between 3 and 9?
  • Can you write an odd number between 12 and 16?
  • Can you write an odd number between 9 and 15?

2. Play this interactive game on the TopMarks website.

3. Go on a walk down the street with your child and look at the house numbers. These will probably be following a pattern of either odd or even numbers. Can your child predict what number will be on the next house? Talk about the pattern.
