Year 1/2 sports day postponed due to weather

Due to the very wet weather predicted for tomorrow, we will not be running the Year 1/2 sports day in the morning. We would rather make the decision now, so we don’t mess anyone about in the morning. We will send out the new date tomorrow for you. Thank you for your understanding with this- never an easy decision!

Caterpillar Update

We’ve been very excited to watch our caterpillars grow this week.

We hope to see more changes by Monday!

Year 1 2023 Phonics Screening Check

Please find below useful information regarding the phonics screening check that all pupils in year 1 will be completing next week. Children in year 2 who didn’t pass the screening check last year will also be completing it this year.

Fieldwork Week

It is fieldwork week in school.

Fieldwork is research or study that happens in the real world. We can observe and get data about people, the natural environment and cultures.

This year the theme is ‘Environment’. Everything physical on Earth is part of an environment. This can include living and non-living things.

People can make changes to the environment. Some can be good changes. Some might be harmful to living things.

Things to think about:

What is your favourite part of the school grounds?

What is your favourite part of around your home?

Is it a good environment for wildlife? If so / not why?

Is there much litter or pollution?

The children will be doing fieldwork activities this week.

Thank you to all of the parents for their continued support.

Year 2 Team

Computing in Year 2

The children in year 2 have started their summer term computing unit focussing on ‘coding’.  Along the way, they have learned some new vocabulary:

  • Command- a single instruction.
  • Algorithm- a set of instructions used to solve a problem or achieve an objective.
  • Scale- this is an attribute (property) of an object that changes its size.
  • Collision- when 2 objects touch each other.
  • Sequence- this is when a computer program runs commands in order.
  • DebugFixing code that has errors so that the code will run the way it was designed to.

Here are some of the activities they have completed on Purple Mash.

Make an airport where the planes take off.

Use the collision detection command to program the computer to detect the collision.

Use the timer to make sure events happen when you want them to.

Use the ‘when key’ and ‘swipe’ commands.

Create a computer program that includes a button object.

Well done Year 2.??

REMINDER: The children can access Purple Mash at home using their individual login. If they have misplaced this login, speak to their class teacher and they will provide you with a new one!
