Comparing and ordering decimals

How do you compare decimals?

To compare decimals start by setting up a table with the decimal point in the same place for each number. Fill in any blank spaces with a 0.

Starting from the left and working right, compare digits until one number wins. In this case 8 > 0 and therefore 0.58 > 0.508.

Writing Challenge! ✏👸🐲

Ridiculous Writers | Young Writers

This week, we would like the children at home to get involved with our creative writing challenge! Each key stage will be given a different theme which will inspire them and give them a purpose for their writing.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a competition. The aim of this challenge is to encourage creative writing.

Key Stage 2- Ridiculous Writers

We challenge you to write a mini saga (a story told in 100 words) inspired by a ridiculous word pairing e.g. a story about the ‘Gangster Bogey’, the ‘Singing Biscuit’ or the ‘Forgetful Chef’.

Start by watching this short video to introduce the activity and then use the online idea generator to create a crazy combo for your ridiculous story.

Below are some resources to help you with this task including a PowerPoint and a planning sheet.

Water Chimes!💧

Set up a sound/science experiment with water and a handful of glasses.

The Science

The more water in the bottle, the lower the sound will be when played. This is because the sound vibrations you can hear come from the bottle, as you add water it takes on a greater vibrating mass. If there is less water in the bottle there is less weight that vibrates and the pitch is higher.
