Poems

This week, we have been looking at poetry. The children have read a poem written by Roger McGough called The Sound Collector. They looked at different features of poetry e.g. rhyme and onomatopoeia.

Today, the children have written their own version of The Sound Collector.

Here are some examples.

Online Safety Information

A huge thank you to the parents that came to our online safety workshop last week.

If you were unable to attend but would still like the information, the slides that we shared are available here.

There is also access to a google drive which has information on games your children may be playing/how to set up devices safety/how to get more information on what they are doing online-you can access this here.

As always, if you have any concerns, please feel free to speak to your child’s class teacher or a member of our Safeguarding team.

Big Walk and Wheel Event 2023

Register your school for Sustrans' Big Walk and Wheel today! | Raring2go!

We are taking part in Sustran’s Big Walk and Wheel, the UK’s biggest inter-school walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to school competition. The event will run all week from 20th-24th March. It is free and we would love everyone to be involved!
On each day of the challenge schools will compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school. The Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) at St Georges will collect this data and with the help of Miss Bibi, will add it to the Sustans website.
Schools will be entered into a daily prize draw for rewards (including equipment and accessories) if over 15% of their pupils walk, use a wheelchair, scoot or cycle on that day of the challenge.
We want all children to join in the fun and to understand the health and wellbeing benefits of active travel. Please help us to encourage your child to walk, scoot or cycle to school this week. Don’t forget to make sure they wear a helmet if they do scoot or cycle.

Useful resources

To help you prepare, Sustrans has developed a handy free guide to walking, cycling or scooting to school. It is packed with advice to help you have hassle-free journey to school.

Year 3.4 Boys’ Football Trial

There will be a boys’ football trial on Monday 20th March at lunchtime. Children must have a football kit, change of suitable footwear and shin-pads to participate.

Poetry

This week in literacy we have been looking at rhyming poems, the children have all written their own rhyming Easter poems, here are just a few!

There are flowers all over the lawn,
Animals are being born.
Easter is when Jesus died,
The man who never lied.
I hope I get at least one egg,
The Easter bunny made a track with his leg.
Easter is a wonderful day,
It’s just like a holiday.
I hope I get a treat from the bunny,
Last year I got chocolate topped with honey! (By Ben)

It’s time for spring,
Let’s see what the Easter bunny will bring.
The Easter bunny,
Well he was very funny!
The bunny did hop,
Then his ears did flop.
Eggs are hidden in the ground,
There’s one that has been found.
There is something sweet,
Maybe it’s a treat? (By Mira)

It was a sunny day in spring,
I wonder what the Easter bunny will bring?
The bunny did a hop,
And I said stop.
We put up decorations,
And have wonderful celebrations! (By Madelyn)

Forces

In Science, we have started our new topic of Forces and Magnets. Today, we looked at what a force is. The children used their investigation skills to find out what a force is using sponges, rubber bands and playdough.

After that, they used a Newton meter to find out the force. They learned that, the greater the force the more the Newton meter will stretch.

Visit from an Artist

Today, the children in year three had some art workshops delivered by a Chinese artist. The children learned about Chinese writing and had a go at writing some letters. After that, they tried blowing paint to make a pattern and adding some colour using cotton buds. They really enjoyed learning about another culture and they produced some great work.

Here are some photos of them at work.
