Vincent Van Gogh Art

This week, the children have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh. They have made their very own version of ‘Starry Night’. This was one of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous paintings.

Here are some of the children with their work.

Author visit

This morning Mrs Weston’s literacy set were lucky enough to be visited by the author Jessica Keane. She spoke to us all about becoming an author and read some of her book with us all about Mia the cat, she has kindly donated a copy to school so we can find out what happens next!  Jessica used to be a vet so she also shared lots of interesting facts about the forest animals she writes about.

Key Stage Two Swimming 🏊‍♀️🥽🏊‍♂️

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Every Monday, beginning Monday 24th April and ending 17th July, all Key stage 2 children will go to Oakengates leisure centre for a 30 minute swimming lesson. The children will go to the swimming pool in their year groups and will be split into three different groups, based on their swimming abilities. Each group will be led by at least one member of St George’s staff. The leisure centre life-guards will be on hand as a safety measure.

All children will get changed at the leisure centre so will need an appropriate swimming costume in a separate waterproof bag, towel and goggles if required. All other swimming equipment such as arm bands and floats will be provided at the leisure centre. We suggest packing an extra pair of socks/ tights in case they get wet during the changing procedure.  Can we please encourage children to wear their swimming costumes under their uniform in the morning to make the most of the time available at the swimming pool (don’t forget to pack underwear for after swimming.)  All children will return to school in time for normal lunches.

Kind Regards

PE Team.

Monet Art Work

This week, the children have been learning about Monet. They have used finger painting to create a garden and today they used oil pastels to recreate his work on The Houses of Parliament.

Poems

This week, we have been looking at poetry. The children have read a poem written by Roger McGough called The Sound Collector. They looked at different features of poetry e.g. rhyme and onomatopoeia.

Today, the children have written their own version of The Sound Collector.

Here are some examples.
