Good morning!
If for any reason your child is off school and requiring work, we will be publishing work for them to go through and complete. We have been doing some baselines assessments in class to spot any gaps which have formed as a result of the extended time off. We are spending this week closing the gap on our assessments and writing our final piece for our brochures topic. Below are some links to lessons we will be completing as a result of identifying those gaps.

In our Literacy lessons we are moving on from brochures to story writing. We will be looking at Charlie and the chocolate factory. If you are able to, watch the film (it is on Netflix for those with that facility, or youtube etc). We will be looking at the newer film but the older one will work just the same! We will also be reading the book up until Charlie finds a golden ticket. There will be some chocolate tasting and hot seating about how Charlie, Grandpa bucket and other winners will be feeling. We will be focussing on adjectives to describe chocolate and sweets as well as how it makes us feel. We will then be writing guided paragraphs. For example:
- Think of other words for ‘looked’. (gazed, glared, stared, etc.) and add them to the sentence: ‘He looked/stared/ alternative. Charlie knew he wanted a scrifflewiffle scrumpyflumpy caramel crisp.’ Then look at the adjectives, what do they mean? What would you use instead to describe the caramel crisp? Why was it described like this?
- Look at when the shopkeeper shows kindness to Charlie, can you think of any other fictional character that shows kindness to children? How do you know that the shopkeeper was kind? What does ‘twinkling eyes’ mean? Can you think of anything else that twinkles? Can you think of any adverbs to describe how the shopkeeper hands Charlie the chocolate bar? (gently, slowly, carefully, enthusiastically). Rewrite this sentence including your adverbs: ‘As the shopkeeper handed him the chocolate bar…………, his eyes twinkled like………’
- Why does the shopkeeper warn Charlie? What is he warning him about? How would you warn someone to keep their golden ticket safe? What would happen if Charlie lost the ticket?
Reading should also remain a priority throughout and children are encouraged to read 5 times a week outside of school. This should be kept up and there are a number of activities which can aid this. For example, pretending to interview a character, writing a character profile, predicting what will happen t, rewriting the ending to a completely new ending, etc.
The year 3/4 spellings can also be practised and can be found here: https://content.twinkl.co.uk/resource/8a/ec/t2-e-3099-statutory-spellings-years-3-and-4-word-mat-_ver_2.pdf?__token__=exp=1601451521~acl=%2Fresource%2F8a%2Fec%2Ft2-e-3099-statutory-spellings-years-3-and-4-word-mat-_ver_2.pdf%2A~hmac=9b05abb158a840037dbe456207805657abf44397bb19bd854fb75e54356bb682
Our foundation subjects will be RE at the moment and our focus is the 5 pillars of Islam currently. This is the PowerPoint we will be working through in class.
