Geography Projects in Year 6 😊

Whilst the rest of their classmates are at Arthog, the Year 6 children who are at school this week have also been having a wonderful time! 😊 They have been enjoying all sorts of learning opportunities, and have particularly enjoyed the geography projects that they have been working on.

We have been talking about different coastal areas, both in the UK and in the world, and have been using Google Maps to explore. The children have chosen a focus coastal area which they have researched and produced a project on. We have all learned lots of fascinating facts from each other! 🤩

Cute pencil mascot wishes you a merry Christmas 2195917 Vector Art at Vecteezy

Exciting news! We’re thrilled to introduce our new Christmas-themed writing competition! We’re on the lookout for imaginative pieces of writing that capture the magic of Christmas.

You’re free to express your creativity in any Christmas writing form—whether it’s a story, poem, comic strip, diary entry, newspaper report, or anything else that sparks your fancy! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Write a crime report about a mysterious ‘intruder’ on Christmas Eve.
  • Create a poem about Santa falling too sick to work on Christmas Eve.
  • Craft a story about Santa being mistaken for a burglar!

Give all entries to Miss Bibi or Mrs Branford by Monday, December 11th.

What’s even more exciting?

All entries will be compiled into a special book for the school and there are runner-up prizes to be won. We’ll select one outstanding piece from each year group as the winning entry.

So, what are you waiting for? Let the magical writing journey begin!

KS2 Spelling Bees! 🐝

This week, we held our very first Spelling Bee for Years 3/ 4 and for Years 5/6.

We were blown away by the brilliant spelling from all of the children who participated and also by how brave they were! Well done everyone! ⭐⭐⭐

Also, a big well done to the children who were part of the audience; you showed our school value of respect and did a fantastic job of supporting your peers! 🥰

Here are our winners from the Year 5/6 Spelling Bee 🙂

KS2 Junior Road Safety Officers!

Today the Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO’s) teamed up with the Police community support officers (PCSOs) to conduct a traffic survey outside of school, specifically to see how many people were seen parking on the yellow lines during pick up.

They will now meet with Mrs Watts and the Safety Guardians to come up with a plan to help make the roads near our school, a safer place for children.

A massive thank you to the PCSOs for their invaluable assistance in this initiative.

Gymnastics in year 6! 🤸‍♀️

Year 6 had a great afternoon in gymnastics yesterday! We focused on how we can balance on the apparatus. They all had an amazing go at balancing! Miss Hedges was blown away!

The children in Year 6 have really enjoyed our ‘World Unite’ topic in Music lessons this half term! We have been learning about syncopated rhythms and have been using body percussion to accompany a beat. Well done, everyone! 😊🎵

Interfaith Week 2023

Our Interfaith Week resources have arrived! The children are invited to get creative to celebrate Interfaith Week this year. They can make a poster or artwork; research a faith and present the facts; make up a song, dance or story…or anything else that takes their fancy!  The aim is celebrate, learn, show respect and appreciate the value of diversity. Please hand in your entry to Mrs Holt, Mrs Swan or Mrs Probert by Monday 20th November. Winners will be celebrated and prizes given during Celebration Assembly. We can’t wait to see what you create!

School Council Event

On Thursday, a small group of our school councillors went to Southwater Library to feature in Councillor, Shaun Davies’ Christmas video. The children got to ask Shaun a series of festive ‘This or That’ questions and talked about some of their own Christmas traditions. While they were there, they enjoyed reading some books too!

The video will be aired mid-December and used widely across the council’s digital channels to wish borough residents a Merry Christmas!
