Cross Country! 🏃‍♂️

On Tuesday 10th October, children from year 3, 4, 5 and 6 competed in a cross country event at Chetwynd Deer Park. The children were amazing and tried their hardest. All of the staff were incredibly proud of our children. The PE team would like to thank Lisa and Louise, members of the PTFA for giving up their time to attend the event with us! It was a brilliant day!

Year 6 Science – Adaptation and Caterpillar Hunt 😊

The children in Year 6 have had fun today searching for ‘caterpillars’ as part of our Science topic of Evolution and Inheritance. They have been learning about how different animals are adapted to suit their environment, and how camouflage helps creatures to survive.  They then designed their own imaginary creature with adaptations to help them survive in a rainforest environment.

Blue Peter have launched a new Book Club which we are very excited to promote in school!

Each month Blue Peter will put together a list of 6 amazing books as recommended reads. We will provide copies of these books, which the children can sign out and borrow. These will be stored in the main entrance of the school and can be borrowed for a maximum of 1 week.

By sharing a book review after you have read the book, the children can earn the brand –new Blue Peter Book Badge, designed by Sir Quentin Blake. To earn your badge, the children will need to fill in the Book Badge Application Form which will ask them questions the book they have read. The form can be accessed from the Blue Peter website. It can be uploaded online or sent by post.

Local History Week in Year 6 😊

Today we were treated to a visit by local resident Mrs Lynne Shepherd, who lived in St George’s from the age of seven. She shared her memories of growing up in the area and gave us a brilliant insight into what life was like years ago. The children loved hearing all about how St George’s has changed, and were particularly fascinated about her memories of the ‘Big Freeze’ of 1963! ❄⛄

Year 6 Take a Walk Through the History of St George’s 😊

Yesterday, we were very fortunate to have a tour of the local area from Stephen Handley, a local parish member. He showed us some of the oldest buildings in St George’s, and shared some fascinating facts about how the area has changed through history. We were very surprised to learn that before our school was built, a horse racing course used to run through where St George’s Primary School now stands! Well done to all of the Year 6 children for displaying an excellent attitude (as usual!) 😊

Mountains in Year 6! ⛰🏔

We are currently studying the fascinating topic of ‘Mountains’ in Year 6 as part of Geography. This week, the children completed some fantastic map work which involved using atlases to locate mountain ranges from all over the world. They then discussed their findings and researched further facts about mountain ranges, and the countries and continents that they are found in.

Y6 British Artists 😊

This week, we started our Art topic of British Artists. We began by studying the work of David Hockney, then recreated one of his famous pieces using our own ideas.
