Safer Internet Day 2023

Today is Safer Internet Day

All of the children have attended special assemblies this morning. We have discussed our online activities and how we can navigate our own personal safety in our online lives just like we do in our day to day life.

Each class has an Acceptable Use Agreement displayed in their classroom that they have all signed to say that they will use school devices responsibly and that they know who to go to for help.

Takeover Assembly!

Over Hall Community School: School Council

Today the school councillors took over the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 assemblies! They introduced themselves and explained their very important role in school so that all of the children knew who to approach should they have any ideas for school improvement.

After that, Gillian Denning from Stronger and Safer Communities talked to us about a problem in the local community (dog mess) and the importance of cleaning up after your dog! Then she introduced a competition which involves the children designing their own ‘poo posters’. This is not mandatory but we are encouraging as many children as possible to take part!

The deadline for this competition is Monday 13th February. Can all entries please be given to Miss Bibi or Mrs Morris (School Council leads). The entries will be judged by Gillian and the school councillors and the chosen designs will be put up around the local area.

Good Luck!

STAR! ⭐?‍♂️?‍♂️

The children have been lucky enough to have Andy and Wayne, who are police officers, visit and educate them about: different types of drugs; avoidance techniques; how to manage difficult situations; peer pressure and laws. They also experienced what it is like to be drunk by wearing ‘beer goggles’! As well as having lots of fun and learning, the children’s behaviour was exceptional and they demonstrated our school values wonderfully throughout the day. Well done! ?

Dogs Trust Workshop ??‍???

Today, the children took part in a Dogs trust workshop where they were educated about appropriate behaviour around both familiar and unfamiliar dogs. An element of the session was about how to safely interact with dogs and also what to do if they were approached by an unknown dog. Their behaviour was excellent; they had lots of brilliant questions and even participated in some role play! ????

A huge thank you to Alison who delivered the workshop – she was very impressed with the children’s behaviour and knowledge. Well done! ?

In the meantime, you can read the minutes of our meeting on the Pupil Voice section of this website.

Storytelling Week!

This week, we have been celebrating Storytelling Week!  The children enjoyed some fabulous storytelling activities throughout the week, including sessions with storyteller Peter Chand, lessons within classes and performances to our ‘buddy classes’ in different year groups!

Today, we enjoyed our Life Ready, Work Ready workshop where we learned about different careers. We loved playing the ‘Guess My Job’ game with local business people, including a former pupil at St George’s! 😊 The children certainly were inspired to follow their dreams and aspirations 🌟

Parent and Child Cooking Session

Well done to Buzz, Daniel, Jayden, Oscar and Ava who worked with their Mums to bake some delicious muffin pizzas yesterday. With the support of the Eat Well team, they followed the healthy recipe, measured out the ingredients and chose their favourite toppings. It was lovely to see how cooking can be a great opportunity for teamwork!
