Art Competition! ๐Ÿ–Œโœ๐Ÿ–Œโœ๐Ÿ–Œโœ๐Ÿ–Œ

Our art competition is inspired by the artist Henry Fraser. We heard about him today during assembly.

Below is a link all about him.

The competition is to produce a piece of art, painting preferably, by holding the paintbrush in your mouth. You will have to persevere, it will be tricky but try your very best!

Entries have to be in after half term on the 6th November. Give them to Mrs Blair, Mrs Bridgwater or Mrs Probert.

Good luck!

Writing in Year 6 ๐Ÿ˜Š

This half term, the children in Year 6 have been working incredibly hard on their writing. This week, they have been utilizing all of the writing skills that they have developed during our topic of Diariesย to create an imaginary diary entry based on the theme of ‘Moving House’. We are so very proud of the focussed approach that all of our Year 6 children have demonstrated. โค

Our previous writing topic was Biography and Autobiography,ย which culminated in a piece of independent writing based on Edmund Hillary (who we learned about during our Geography topic of Mountains). Once again, the children worked extremely hard and produced some outstanding work. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Digital Detectives in Year 6 ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

As part of our Computing Topic of Online Safety, the children have been carrying out digital detective work! They investigated the digital footprint of various fictional candidates for a football business sponsorship deal, and made decisions on who the best candidate would be based on the trail that they had left online.

Year 6 Science – Adaptation and Caterpillar Hunt ๐Ÿ˜Š

The children in Year 6 have had fun today searching for ‘caterpillars’ as part of our Science topic of Evolution and Inheritance. They have been learning about how different animals are adapted to suit their environment, and how camouflage helps creatures to survive.ย  They then designed their own imaginary creature with adaptations to help them survive in a rainforest environment.

African Dance in Year 6 ๐Ÿ˜Š

This week, we were treated to a session of African Dance, which was fantastic! We loved learning the different moves along with call and response songs ๐Ÿ˜Š Later in the afternoon, we had the opportunity to perform our dance to the rest of KS2 and watch their performances!

Local History Week in Year 6 ๐Ÿ˜Š

Today we were treated to a visit by local resident Mrs Lynne Shepherd, who lived in St George’s from the age of seven. She shared her memories of growing up in the area and gave us a brilliant insight into what life was like years ago. The children loved hearing all about how St George’s has changed, and were particularly fascinated about her memories of the ‘Big Freeze’ of 1963! โ„โ›„

Year 6 Take a Walk Through the History of St George’s ๐Ÿ˜Š

Yesterday, we were very fortunate to have a tour of the local area from Stephen Handley, a local parish member. He showed us some of the oldest buildings in St George’s, and shared some fascinating facts about how the area has changed through history. We were very surprised to learn that before our school was built, a horse racing course used to run through where St George’s Primary School now stands! Well done to all of the Year 6 children for displaying an excellent attitude (as usual!) ๐Ÿ˜Š

Mountains in Year 6! โ›ฐ๐Ÿ”

We are currently studying the fascinating topic of ‘Mountains’ in Year 6 as part of Geography. This week, the children completed some fantastic map work which involved using atlases to locate mountain ranges from all over the world. They then discussed their findings and researched further facts about mountain ranges, and the countries and continents that they are found in.

Y6 British Artists ๐Ÿ˜Š

This week, we started our Art topic of British Artists. We began by studying the work of David Hockney, then recreated one of his famous pieces using our own ideas.
