Mrs S Sixsmith
Headteacher & Governor
I have been in education for over twenty years including being a class teacher, a consultant for two local authorities and then in senior leadership at three primary schools. St George’s is my second headship and I was thrilled to join the team here in September 2019. I live with my husband, two children of my own (both now teenagers), and two dogs who all keep me very busy in my spare time. Over the last eight years, I have enjoyed working closely with schools in remote areas of Nepal. I have been lucky to travel there three times to work alongside Nepalese teachers in the Himalayas.

Ten years ago, I was appointed Deputy Head Teacher and have continued in this role ever since. I live near Stafford with my partner, two dogs and a cat and I have two grown up children who I spend a lot of time with. In my spare time, I enjoy walking my dogs, swimming and watching my local football team whenever I can.

I have been teaching for twenty years. I started my career in Shawbury as an NQT and spent seven years there before moving on to St. George’s. I secured a promotion at St. George’s where I took on the role of Maths coordinator at Phase 2 and I taught across the key stage 2 age range. Since then I have led Phase 2 and I now oversee Phase 1 in my role as Assistant Head. In my personal life, I live with my husband and two children and we love to spend time together as a family.

Chair of Governors
Co-opted Governor /Safeguarding/Children in Care/Prevent
I first came to St George’s to work for the Lilleshall Company in the 1970’s and thought it a lovely place, so some years later when looking to start a day nursery for our son to get early intervention with his special needs, we came back to the area and found a disused chapel in Oakengates. I ran Chapel Nursery there for 20 years whilst gaining a BA honours degree in early childhood studies and having a second son along the way. Our own boys, now grown up and living independently, left us with an empty house. So we turned to fostering for Telford and Wrekin and have pretty much had a full house ever since. School days can be a difficult time for some children and families and I hope with support, to help make it better.

Co-Opted Governor
I began my teaching career in the Forest of Dean in a small village school, then after two years, relocated to start married life with my husband Geoff in Newport Shropshire, commencing a teaching job at St. Matthew’s C E Primary in Telford. There I stayed for 20 years taking on more roles including the leadership of English, Music and Art and taking on greater leadership roles, becoming Deputy Headteacher. I adored my time at St. Matthew’s where my daughter Emily also attended. Following a brief 4 year appointment as Headteacher at Redhill Primary, I returned to my second home of St. Matthew’s to lead it for another 11 years until retiring in Summer 2023.
I come from a long line of teachers and it’s clearly in the blood as my daughter is also now teaching in Telford. I thrive on seeing children fulfil their dreams and ambitions and care deeply that all those in education have a common vision and are committed to seeing all those children in our care achieve to become the very best versions of themselves they can be, as the St George’s school motto states, ‘Everyone matters, everyone achieves’. This is clearly at the heart of everything they do and believe at St George’s and I am excited to be involved in their journey moving forward.
