Curriculum Intent
‘Everyone matters, everyone achieves.’
At St George’s C of E Primary School, we are committed to providing all our pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum. Through high quality teaching and well-planned lessons, children of all abilities will experience success, challenge and enjoyment across all subject areas. Through our carefully designed curriculum and our school values, we aim to ensure that all pupils leave us with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes that they need to succeed in life. It is our goal for all our children to be confident learners who know more and remember more.
We will endeavour to instil a love of learning in our pupils. The fundamental skills in English and maths are at the centre of our teaching and learning, however, we feel very strongly that children should be given every opportunity to learn about, explore and develop personal interests and have a passion for different subject areas that they, as individuals, enjoy.
We want our children to thrive in an environment where they have a voice and they know they are listened to. Mental health and well-being is important at St. George’s and a range of strategies and support are offered to the school community. We ensure social, moral, spiritual and cultural development is central to our school ethos and is threaded purposefully throughout the school day.
Through a wide variety of educational visits and visitors into school, we aim to provide the pupils at St George’s with real life experiences to support and enhance their learning. The residential trip in Year 6 provides children with the opportunity to have experiences that will stay with them for life. Close community and global links in our curriculum support children to understand their place in a wider society.
Our extensive outdoor area is a valuable resource for the school curriculum. Forest School, adventure areas, gardens and planting areas, story telling area and the large playing field provide vital opportunities for outdoor learning. By providing a wide range of extra-curricular activities, we hope to support our children to develop new interests and foster positive habits for the future.
Careers Education
At St. George’s, we encourage our children to aim high and be the best they can be both during their time at St. George’s and in their future. We provide opportunities for our children to explore various careers through:
- careers lessons, including regular discussions across the curriculum connecting careers and subjects
- careers assemblies
- a wide-range of visitors into school to talk about their careers
- careers fair for children and parents
- aspirations days
