Bonjour!
Welcome to French at St George’s.
At St. George’s:
- Our intent for modern foreign languages at St George’s is to provide valuable educational, social and cultural experiences for our pupils.
- Our children are exposed to the French language and culture to broaden their understanding.
- Our high quality teaching enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both orally and in writing.
- Our lessons push pupils to make substantial progress in French within Key Stage 2. The linguistic skills gained will assist and lay foundations for further language learning. We aim to provide pupils with the confidence and independence to explore and be able to manipulate the structure of language.
- We want our children to gain confidence and understanding of a different language.
Teaching and learning:
- We provide high quality specialist teaching delivered by Mrs Sohier to all children in Key Stage 2 so that all children can enjoy and achieve success when learning a new language. As a school, we feel that our strengths in modern foreign languages lend themselves to teaching French.
- We embed the learning of French through themed days in school, which are very popular and memorable with our children.
- We introduce simple, spoken French to children from year 1 upwards. This provides a basis for subsequent learning
.Teachers use the document below to ensure that children are acquiring key skills, building on previous knowledge and developing their French vocabulary.
